Adding Screen Prints to Dynamics CRM Articles

When we installed Dynamics CRM 2011, the first thing I wanted to use it for was the Articles function. At last a place where I can store all those solutions to customers problems which can be serchable. Also we could use it to send to customers who need, to set up thier iPhone for example.
But the one thing i couldn't figure out was how to include screen prints into an article. I can across a fix which worked but missed one omission which meant I wasted hours.
If you are using the Outlook CRM add in, do not try to do this from within Outlook. You won't be able to drag the pictures in. You must do this from IE.

 

• First off, you will need to be able to upload your screen prints to a server offsite. This can be an image store or in a directory on your web server. Basically the article will display the image as a refernce. That way, when its sent to someone, they will be able to see the picture. If its stored on your network, they will see a red cross.
• Create a new article, leave spaces where you intend to insert your screen print.

• Open another web page and navigate to the area on your website or image store, that houses the picture.
• Then drag the image from one page to the spot in the article. 

 

Sharepoint Error after applying KB2493987 & KB2553018

We applied these updates on our own server before we went around applying updates to our customer boxes. Just as well. After apllying these particular updates we found that the companyweb no longer wanted to work.
After looking around the net this was a common problem. This seems to occur to Windows 2008 SBS servers 64Bit and if you used the move wizard to move the Sharepoint directory. Basically the move doesn't replicate to correct permissions on the new destination directory as highlighted here;

Howerver, i didn't want to ring Microsoft becuase I got better things to do. The fix wasn't very clear but I did manage to find it. You basically do the following on the server;
  

1. Open the Services snap-in and Restart the Windows Internal Database service.
2. Run the following command from an elevated command prompt (if the command fails, note the error and run the command again, in some occasions due to some timing considerations, it might have to be run multiple times before it works, we would suggest trying it 2 or 3 times).
3. C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web server extensions\12\BIN\psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force  
4. The command may take a long time to run. If it completes successfully, SharePoint Central Admin and Companyweb should work (confirm IIS services are running, bindings are correct, etc.)
5. After the psconfig completes, check the following: If SharePoint Central Admin works but Companyweb does not, check the bindings for the web site in IIS, we’ve seen some cases where they are missing.

I have declined the updates on all servers and am waiting for Microsoft to come up with something. If not then we might need to install the updates and then run the psconfig command.
I have had a similar problem when installing SharePoint 2010 SP1 updates on a SBS 2011 server where it stopped NTBackup working (Psconfig post install).
So in future we will take great care installing anything to do with SharePoint.

IPSEC Error 2

Sometimes if the server runs out of diskspace and even after a re-boot the server will not comunicate with the network. If youcheck the services you may notice that the IPSEC service is not running. If you try and run it you get an Error 2 cant start the service. You will need to rebuild the IPSEC policy. 

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. In Registry Editor, locate and then click the following subkey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\IPsec\Policy\Local.
3. On the Edit menu, click Delete.
4. Click Yes to confirm that you want to delete the subkey
5. Quit Registry Editor
6. Click Start, click Run, type regsvr32 polstore.dll, and then click OK.

Add & Remove Program Doesn't Work On Win 2000 Server

Go to Start --> run --> cmd and type the following

regsvr32 mshtml.dll

regsvr32 shdocvw.dll -i

regsvr32 shell32.dll -i

If that doesn't work try try inserting the "Windows 2000 Server" disc and do the following;

• start --> run --> sfc /scannow and press enter

How to turn on Automatic Logon to Windows XP

You can use Registry Editor to add your log on information. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2. Locate the following registry key:
   HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
3. Using your account name and password, double-click the DefaultUserName entry, type your user name, and then click OK.
4. Double-click the DefaultPassword entry, type your password under the value data box, and then click OK.
   
   If there is no DefaultPassword value, create the value. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Value.
   2. Type DefaultPassword as the value name, and then press ENTER.
   3. Double-click the newly created key, and then type your password in the Value Data box.
   If no DefaultPassword string is specified, Windows XP automatically changes the value of the AutoAdminLogon registry key from 1 (true) to 0 (false) to turn off the AutoAdminLogon feature.
5. Double-click the AutoAdminLogon entry, type 1 in the Value Data box, and then click OK.
   
   If there is no AutoAdminLogon entry, create the entry. To do this, follow these steps:
   1. In Registry Editor, click Edit, click New, and then click String Value.
   2. Type AutoAdminLogon as the value name, and then press ENTER.
   3. Double-click the newly created key, and then type 1 in the Value Data box.
6. Quit Registry Editor.
7. Click Start, click Restart, and then click OK.

After your computer restarts and Windows XP starts, you can log on automatically. 

If you want to bypass the automatic logon to log on as a different user, hold down the SHIFT key after you log off or after Windows XP restarts. Note that this procedure applies only to the first logon. To enforce this setting for future logoffs, the administrator must set the following registry key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon

Type: REG_SZ
Data: 1

You can also use turn on automatic logon without editing the registry in Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition and in Microsoft Windows XP Professional on a computer that is not joined to a domain. To do this, follow these steps:

1. Click Start, and then click Run.
2. In the Open box, type control userpasswords2, and then click OK.
   
   Note When users try to display help information in the User Accounts window in Windows XP Home Edition, the help information is not displayed. Additionally, users receive the following error message:
   Cannot find the Drive:\Windows\System32\users.hlp Help file. Check to see that the file exists on your hard disk drive. If it does not exist, you must reinstall it.
3. Clear the "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer" check box, and then click Apply.
4. In the Automatically Log On window, type the password in the Password box, and then retype the password in the Confirm Password box.
5. Click OK to close the Automatically Log On window, and then click OK to close the User Accounts window.

Can’t create file: VoiceMessage.wav

You get an error message when trying to open a voicemessage file from outlook. This happens when the number of voicemessage.wav files reaches 100 in a temp directory. They must be deleted before you can listen to another message.

1. Go into Regedit and type the following to find the temp directory.
2. KEY: HKCU\software\Microsoft\Office\\Outlook\Security the value name your after is OutlookSecureTempFolder
3. Copy the directory path of the value name into the run command.
4. It should open up the directory, then delete all the files in this location.

When was a server re-booted?

Find out the last time a server was re-booted.

1. Go to "Start" -> "Run".
2. Write "CMD" and press on "Enter" key.
3. Write the command "net statistics server" and press on "Enter" key.

4. The line that start with "Statistics since …" provides the time that the server was up from.
